2024 Price Adjustment

View this email in your browser Delayed Deliverables Dear Valued Client, Babcock Laboratories, Inc. has taken great strides throughout the years to provide clients with quality data while meeting client requested turnaround times. 2023 has been a busy year, and, we are experiencing longer than normal turnaround times and are unable to meet requested TATs. Our current turnaround time has moved from our normal 10 business days to 18 business days on average. To help facilitate the improvement of turnaround times, Babcock Labs has taken the following steps: Increased staffing in key areas of the lab to increase production Capital investment to remove instrument downtime Increase capacity in PFAS analysis Rebuilding IT infrastructure We are working diligently to get back on track and provide our clients with the whole Babcock experience and we expect performance improvement will be noticeable by October 31st. Babcock Laboratories' El Centro Microbiology Laboratory Schedule Change as of April 3rd

View this email in your browser Babcock Laboratories’ El Centro Microbiology Lab Schedule Change To Our Valued Clients,  Effective April 3rd, all microbiology, COT, and pH samples will be couriered to Babcock Laboratories' Riverside location for analysis. All microbiology samples must be submitted on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday by 12:00 PM, 12:30 PM the latest. The lab courier will be scheduled to transport samples to Riverside at 1:30 PM.   Please collect non-potable microbiology samples between 10:00 AM and noon to allow adequate time for transportation, sample receipt, and initiation of the analytical process, and ensure sample analysis will meet regulatory holding times. Drinking water samples should be submitted the same day as collection. 2023 Price Adjustment

View this email in your browser 2023 Price Adjustment Hello, This letter is to announce an important change coming to Babcock Laboratories’ service offerings. Extraordinary inflationary pressures related to supply chain issues, shipping cost increases, severe labor shortages, and compensation adjustments required to retain a skilled labor force necessitate changes to the cost of our services. Commencing January 1, 2023, Babcock Laboratories, Inc. will implement a seven percent increase in the price of analytical testing and sampling outlined in the Babcock Labs schedule of services. The new prices will apply only to work received for analysis on or after January 1st and will have no effect on samples and services covered under existing contracts and professional agreements. Once again, services being rendered under current contracts and other agreements remain unchanged. 6020-Silver/Selenium Solid Analysis

View this email in your browser 6020-Silver/Selenium Solid Analysis Babcock Laboratories, Inc. maintains a Quality System based on California Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (CA ELAP) Standards, the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Council (NELAC) Institute (TNI) and ISO 17025:207. A key element of the TNI accreditation standard is the performance of independently prepared matrix-specific unknowns referred to as Proficiency Test (PT) samples. Babcock performs these PT samples twice annually on multiple matrices analyzing and reporting more than 2,500 individual analytes using hundreds of different analytical methods. Babcock routinely performs well above the average acceptance on these reference samples.   In the recent performance of PT analysis using EPA 6020 for trace metals in a solid matrix, the laboratory experienced unacceptable recoveries for two metals, Silver (Ag) and Selenium (Se). In accordance with ELAP regulations (22 CCR § 64802.15 Proficiency Testing Section 3 (j.), the laboratory is voluntarily withdrawing certification for Silver and Selenium pending internal investigation and corrective actions.   Once the issue has been successfully resolved, Babcock will follow the appropriate ELAP protocols to reinstate accreditation for these specific analytes. This letter is to inform you that while conducting the corrective action, Babcock will be sub-contracting any solid samples requiring these metals to another TNI accredited laboratory.   The quality and reliability of the data we provide for your organization is of the utmost importance at Babcock Laboratories. Total Suspended Solids Volume Requirement

View this email in your browser Total Suspended Solids Volume Requirement Babcock Laboratories, Inc. ensures all analyses performed adhere to the official analytical method and regulatory requirements through on-going internal audits and method reviews. As a result of a recent assessment of the Total Suspended Solids (TSS) SM 2540D method, the sample volume required has been changed. The TSS method requires a minimum residue of 2.5mg during the drying step of the procedure. The method notes that up to 1 liter of sample is to be analyzed to meet the minimum residue requirement. Therefore, Babcock will now provide a half-gallon container for TSS samples to ensure ample sample volume is collected for analysis. The volume of sample analyzed to obtain the minimum residue will vary based on sample matrix and composition. Samples such as Influents containing suspended solids may not require the entire liter of sample for analysis and still meet method requirements. Samples with no or minimal solids will require the full sample volume analyzed. If less than 1 liter of sample is provided and the minimum residue is not achieved, the final TSS result will be reported with a qualifier stating, “N-TSSv-Method required minimum residue was not achieved due to insufficient sample volume received.” Please note that samples reported as Non-Detect (ND) when insufficient sample volume was analyzed, may result in raised Reporting Limits (RL). The laboratory requests a full liter is submitted and our chemists will use the appropriate volume needed. The laboratory will continue to make changes as needed to ensure samples are analyzed to the method or regulatory standards.
