Babcock Labs:
Providing Analytical Solutions to Neighbors in Need

If your water heater broke at home, would you call a plumber in Miami to come fix it? If you lived in Florida, probably, but here in California you wouldn’t depend on a company located states away to fix your problem. You would call a local company with a trusted name to get the job done quickly and efficiently.

The same is true throughout the business realm. After all, a local partner appreciates the climate of your situation and is already aware of the many unique challenges you face. Using a local business means you can speak to professionals in real-time and receive the answers you need without dealing with a call center located miles away. A neighboring business is also conscious of the reputation of your organization and is willing to work with you to achieve your goals - not simply focus on their own.

Utilizing a local laboratory provides you with professionals who understand the regulations at the regional level, not just the national. This knowledge is especially vital when your organization has to report to the public and comply with local agencies and California regulatory codes. When dealing with special sampling situations and difficult matrices, the challenges faced are quite familiar to a local laboratory. In fact, a local laboratory may already have methods developed to meet those challenges and provide the data you need, which can save time, energy and expense. On top of all the regional know-how, using a local laboratory also supports local business, putting money back into California’s economy and generating a brighter future for your business and your family.

Now, if you still think a business in Miami stands a chance at appreciating your needs and providing you with analytical solutions, imagine this: What if you were the General Manager of a public sanitation agency and some of your pipelines busted after a severe storm hit California? Mr. Logan Olds of Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority doesn’t have to imagine this scenario because last winter it was his reality. When the crisis hit right before a long weekend, there was no time to explain or wait out the holiday. Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority contacted Babcock Laboratories expressing the gravity of their situation and asking for sampling bottles immediately. Babcock Labs jumped into high gear sending out containers and preparing for a high volume of critical work. After weeks of providing multiple tests and analyzing dozens of samples on a priority one basis, Babcock Labs was proud to partner with VVWRA and help them meet their challenges.

We were fortunate enough to have Mr. Olds speak at our July TEAM event about how his agency dealt with the crisis. To listen to his description of Babcock’s role in the emergency, click here. If you would like to hear Mr. Old’s entire presentation podcast, click here.

Kelly Hubbard from Water Emergency Response Organization of Orange County (WEROC) also spoke at the event, explaining the problems their member agencies

faced and the water emergencies experienced in Orange County during last winter’s severe storms. The members of WEROC provided outstanding emergency aid and mutual support as the County found itself stretched to respond to all the crises. To watch her entire presentation, click here.

Thank you to our speakers and to all those who attended. Stay tuned for information about our next TEAM event!
